Fraudster Fools More Than 100 Land Buyers, Obtains $6000
No fewer than 100 gullible land buyers were deluded by a fake land speculator, Muyiwa Akinwande in Lagos, western Nigeria.
A 36-year-old man was detained by the police at Ikotun Division after he illegally obtained money from at least 100 people by deception. A slyboots was pretending to sell cheap land lots in Ogun State, western Nigeria, and when the interested buyers paid for the land he failed to show it.
In order to prove that he was a genuine land speculator, Akinwande showed fake documents with the name of a registered company Future Gate Resources. According to the victims, once they arranged to meet at the appointed time at the designated location in Ogun State where the seller presented them some pieces of land to them.
And when the potential owners were almost ready to leave the territory, the actual land owner appeared and they were forced to get away with anything. They immediately reported the the matter was reported to the police who arrested Akinwande and charged him to court.
Akinwande confessed to the crime when he was arraigned in the Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court with 18-count charge of fraud and stealing under the Criminal Code, in Lagos State, western Nigeria, June 16. He lives at 1 Amindu Jimoh Street, off Governor Road, Ikotun, Lagos.
Among the victims are: Mrs Hamsat Bello (N100,000), Yekeen Opeyemi (N210,000), Alhaji Ismail Jegede(N260,000), Mrs Hafsat Akinyemi (N132,000), Ismail Abdulrauf (N210,000) and Owolabi Emmanuel (N94,000).
