Following several controversial reports about the ex-president working behind the scenes to secure the release of the abducted Chibok girls who are in the Boko Haram's captivity, new information on the matter appeared.
During an interview on the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation, Obasanjo expressed the fears of failure to return the abducted girls home. And regretted the Federal Government unwillingness to give the green light to his actions.
He also stressed out the possibility of the pregnant girls' release as it's difficult for them to nurse the babies in the forest. He suggested that the girls might have been divided into groups and not likely to be at the same location.
The former President said, “I believe that some of them will never return. We will still be hearing about them many years from now. Some will give birth, but if they cannot take care of them in the forest, they may be released.”
It would be recalled that Obasanjo had previously tried to negotiating with the insurgents, including in September 2011 after Boko Haram bombed the United Nations headquarters in Abuja.
