7 People, 6 Of Them APC Members, Died In Car Accident In Yobe
Seven people died on Wednesday when a vehicle with several members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) had a head on collision with a Volkswagen car.
The accident happened on Damaturu-Potiskum highway in Yobe State at about 10:15am.
The APC members were traveling from Borno State to Abuja for the party's national convention.
Confirming the incident in Damaturu, the Public Relations Officer of Federal Road Safety Commission, Mallam Yusuf Sani, said that out of the 12 passengers and drivers of the vehicles, six people died in the APC's vehicle and one – in the Volkswagen.
One of the dead was Hajiya Saratu Ibrahim Biu, while the identities of others could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report. Saratu was the Assistant Public Relation Officer Borno Social Media Forum (BSF), the campaign forum to Governor Kashim Shettima.
Sani said the remaining five passengers and a driver sustained injuries in their limbs and head. The rescue team transported the injured ones to Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital in Damaturu, he added.
According to Sani, dangerous driving might have caused the accident.
Over N90,000 was recovered from the scene.
