Fashola Approves June 12 As Public Holiday in Lagos
Thursday, 12 June, 2014 is declared to be public holiday in Lagos state, southwestern Nigeria, on Wednesday.

The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola has approved Thursday, 12 June as public holiday for Lagos citizens.
The day is dedicated to the memory of Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, M. K. O. Abiola, and his election victory on June 12, 1993. M. K. O. Abiola is a popular Nigerian Yoruba businessman, publisher, politician and aristocrat of the Yoruba Egba clan, who ran for the presidency in 1993.
He is widely regarded as the presumed winner of the inconclusive election since no official final results were announced. He died in 1998, after being denied victory when the entire election results were dubiously annulled by the preceding military president Ibrahim Babangida because of alleged evidence that they were corrupt and unfair.
A circular issued by the Head of Service, Mrs. Oluseyi Williams, reports that "in commemoration of June 12, 1993 as significant in the actualization of Democracy in Nigeria, His Excellency, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, the Governor of Lagos State, has approved Thursday, 12th June, 2014 as a work free day."
It also called on all workers in the state to take part in events organized by various government agencies and groups to commemorate the day. However, Friday, 13 June, 2014 is an ordinary working day.
