16-Kg Uterine Tumour Removed From Indian Woman

Almost a 16-kg uterine tumour was removed from the body of a 52-year-old Indian woman.

The lady identified as Latha had started feeling fatigue several years ago, without imagining that the formation had been growing inside for more than 20 years.

She was rushed to the hospital a month ago with a profuse bleeding, the medical scans showed enormous fibroid attached to her uterus.

According to the Times of India, she was immediately taken for a complicated surgery within a couple of days. Chennai hospital surgeons carried out a rare 3.5-hour operation.

One of the doctors from the team later narrated:

"We were shocked at the scan reports because the fibroid was huge. In medical parlance, this is called a super giant uterine fibroid and the largest one removed before it (in Africa) weighed 9.6 kilograms."

The doctors also confessed that although similar operations are common in women, because high levels of oestrogen can result in such condition, Latha's tumour was unusually big.

Due to the fact that the tumour was outside the uterus, it could have been growing there for 2 decades without causing serious health problems.
