Two Men Land In Trouble For Stealing From Dead Woman
Two mortuary attendants who stole jewelleries worth N4 million from a dead woman were arraigned before an Evboriaria Chief Magistrates Court in Benin, Edo state.
The accused persons, Osaro Benjamin, 50, and Idowu Eriemator, 26, were employed at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital, Benin where the crime was committed
They were said to have committed the offence on May 12.
They were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
Speaking to the court, the police prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel Obakpolor, said the jewellries were in the casket of the deceased woman identified as Mrs. Esther Akora.
He said the items stolen include ear-rings, necklace, and wedding ring, adding that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code.
The accused persons however pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
Presiding over the case, Chief Magistrate, Mr. Frank Idiake, granted bail the accused persons bail in the sum of N500, 000 each with a surety each in like sum.
Last month an unidentified man suspected to be a ritual killer died mysteriously in Osun state while trying to exhume a buried corpse.
