Before boarding a Skyjet plane, number ZS-KBS, the recuperating governor was able to exchange a couple of words with the local press, as he remained sitting in his Escalade ESV jeep.
Suntai urged the people of Taraba to keep praying for him:
The Chief Press Secretary of the governor, Alhaji Hassan Mijinyawa, further revealed that the check-up would take 14 days. However, this period may be extended in accordance with doctors’ decision, based on the progress and success of treatment.
Suntai was accompanied by his Chief Detail, Joel Danladi and the Chief Security Officer Tino Dangana who survived the air crash with him. Governor’s brother Babangida Suntai, his Chief of Staff Aminu Jika, and other loyalists were also present at the airport on Monday.
The ailing governor has miraculously survived in a ghastly air crash near the Yola, Adamawa State, on October 25, 2012. Suntai was piloting the aircraft himself.
The governor spent ten months in various medical institutions in Germany and in the U.S.A., before return to Nigeria on August 25, 2013.
Suntai’s loyalists have immediately attempted to take governor’s office under total control, to dismiss the Cabinet, motivating the move by normalised condition of the governor.
However, it soon became obvious that Suntai was not fit to resume. His wife confirmed it during a meeting with PDP fact-finding committee, several stakeholders on September 3, 2013. Alhaji Garba Umar remained in position of the Acting Governor of the state.
Suntai is still under huge pressure from Taraba State House of Assembly, who still considers initiation of impeachment procedures.
