The incident took place in the early hours of May 26, 2014, Monday, in Gida-Bua village, Langtang South Local Government Area (LGA), located about 300km from the troubled city of Jos.
According to a source of THISDAY, the soldiers were patrolling the area in a military vehicle, when gunmen opened fire on them. Four out of nine soldiers lost their lives, while five others had to retreat.
The LGA Chairman, Bendel Nancwat, did not give any specific details on the incident to journalists, but noted that the security operatives were in control of the situation in the area.
STF spokesperson, Captain Ikedichi Iweha, refused to comment on the situation, unless more details would be received by him.
Security operatives are currently put on red alert in Plateau and in the capital city of Jos in particular. All the necessary measures are being taken to arrest the terrorists who were behind Terminus Market twin explosion on May 20, 2014, and a suicide bomb attack at Bauchi Road football viewing centre, Jos North, on May 24, 2014.
According to reports, up to six suspects have already been arrested by the STF. However, about 100 terrorists are feared to have infiltrated the state.
