Conchita Wurst blamed for devastating floods in the Balkans

Thomas "Tom" Neuwirth better known as Conchita Wurst represented Austria and scandalously won the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Since then a number of church leaders have claimed that the floodings that killed at least 40 people and forced tens of thousands of others have fled their homes was ‘divine punishment’ for the star’s win and that ‘God is thus washing Serbia of its sins’.

The worst flooding on record in the Balkans has killed dozens of people

Moreover, huge parts of Serbia, and more than a quarter of Bosnia's 4 million people were affected by endless streams of water. There's an additional hazard: leftover land mines from the region’s conflict in the 1990s. Floodwater has disturbed known minefields and damaged some markers that had been placed there to warn people away. The flooding is considered to be the worst that hit Balkans in 120 years, as death poll expected to rise.

Officials in Bosnia and Serbia say floods that killed scores and displaced half a million were caused by the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 winner, Conchita Wurst

Neuwirth describes himself as a gay man and uses female pronouns to describe his Wurst character. The singer has been attacked by transphobic and homophobic countries such as Russia, Armenia and Belarus, who unsuccessfully attempted to get Austria banned from their national broadcasts.
