Borno State Governor Cries Out On Presidency Again
Following the wave of terrorism being perpetrated in Borno State, north-eastern Nigeria lately, Governor of the State, Kashim Shettima has cried out on the Federal Government on the plight of the people of the state.
While granting audience to the Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim Sabo (retd.)-led Presidential Fact-finding Committee on the Chibok Abduction in Maiduguri on Wednesday, Gov. Shettima said the people of Borno State have suffered a lot as a result of the havoc being wrecked on the state by members of the Boko Haram sect.
PUNCH online reports that the committee’s spokesman, Kingsley Osadolor, also quoted the governor as lamenting the losses suffered by the state and its people over the years as a result of terrorism.

Shettima was also quoted to have said that the Boko Haram sects are insulting Islam by saying they are Muslims because their actions contradict the tenets of the religion.
“Borno has seen evil times. Our people have suffered. To every other Muslim worldwide, these men (who) kill, destroy and abduct, insult Islam by calling themselves Muslims. They have contradicted every single tenet of the Islamic religion,” the governor was quoted as saying.
The governor promised to cooperate with the Federal Government and other support groups to ensure that the kidnapped schoolgirls are rescued from their abductors and also wage war against insurgency.

It could be recalled that no fewer than 276 schoolgirls of Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State were kidnapped on 14 April by the Boko Haram sect.
More than a month after their abduction, the Islamist militant group has not released the girls from their captivity. The leader of the terror group, Abubakar Shekau has since said he would only swap the schoolgirls with his brethren captured by the Nigerian military.
The Nigerian government has since come out to say they are not ready to negotiate with the terrorists while promising to rescue the kidnapped girls from the militants.
Early on Wednesday, unknown gunmen were reported to have killed at least 30 residents of Shawa village, Damboa LGA, Borno State.
The attack was said to have been launched around 4am, when the gunmen invaded the village and started shooting sporadically and burning houses.
