Young Woman Wonders if She Should Trust Prophet's Opinion On Her Love Life

A young woman is confused over whether to trust her own feelings while managing her relationships, or to listen to the advice of a prophet her mother went to consult.

I am 24 years old. Two days ago, my mother went to consult a prophet over my two "love interests".

One of them is my ex whom I dated for three years, my first serious boyfriend. I broke up with him last summer because he was very abusive and humiliated me. He cheated on me at least once, hit me multiple times, ordered me out of his car and I had to walk several kms in the middle of the night. It's been almost a year since our break-up, but he keeps calling and pursuing me (now that he'd lost me). My mom doesn't know about the abusive side of our relationship, but she sees that he can't forget me.

The other guy is very caring, he's been there for me throughout the period I was dating my ex. He's God-fearing and calm and consoled me when I was heartbroken. We, however, have kept it at friends' level, as I didn't want to lie to anyone.

Now I'm considering dating this second one "nice" guy, but my mom says the prophet chose my ex over this guy. Moreover, he said my relationship  with the "nice" guy's family would be stressful for me.

So I don't know what to do. To trust my own gut and disobey the prophet, or follow his advice. Please, what should I do?
