Speaking with newsmen at the scene, Shinaba however restrained from claiming that the attack had been carried out by Boko Haram insurgents, as it was alleged, saying that it was too early to say who was responsible for the bombing.
The explosion was so powerful that the suspected terrorist's car was reportedly ripped into 3 pieces. Locals told journalists that the sound of explosion was heard kilometres away from the affected area.

Another witness told Premium Times that the attacker didn't intend to bomb a specific target, but was probably aiming at the highly populated area to cause more casualties. According to the eyewitness, the bomber's car exploded while he was driving.

It is not the first time the predominantly Christian Sabon Giri area has come under attack: at least 4 strong explosions rocked the area on July 29, 2013, having claimed 12 lives.
