Boko Haram Strikes Again: 2 Dead, Village Burnt Down In Borno

The insurgents burnt down all but two houses in the village which is a few kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital.

One of the residents who spoke with BBC said, majority of the villagers had abandoned the village and fled for their lives when they got news about the impending attack.

Residents of Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area of the state said they heard large explosions but had no idea if it was coming from the insurgents or the Nigerian military and so they stayed indoors in the early hours of Thursday for fear of the unknown.

According to report, Boko Haram had attacked the Ngawa Fate last week, killing over 150 people, setting cars, houses and public buildings ablaze.

Despite the state of emergency in Borno and the number of Military men deployed to the state, the Boko Haram has continued to wreck havoc there.

Last month, precisely April 14, they attacked Chibok community abducting over 200 girls from their school and the girls are yet to be found.

However the people of Borno have decided to fight against the insurgents. In the early hours of May 13, local residents attacked Boko Haram members who tried to wreck havoc in the town of Rann, headquarters of Kala/Balge LGA of the state. They killed about 200 terrorists while about 35 were captured.

As Borno state continues to come under attack from the terrorists, President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday requested for the extension of the emergency rule in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa by another six months, a move which governors of the state have opposed.
