Rihanna Took Selfie With LAPD Official And Gathered Over $50,000 For Charity
Rihanna broke phone of an LA police officer and it collected over $50,000 for charity.
Rihanna took a selfie with a Commission President of L.A. Police, Steve Soboroff, at a basketball game between Los Angeles Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder.
Shortly after the selfie was taken, RiRi dropped the phone and its screen cracked.
This situation was turned into something really great, as Rihanna agreed to sign it and Soboroff auctioned it off on eBay to support L.A. Police Foundation.
“It would be huge, and the worldwide attention can help [raise] the rest,” Soboroff said.
As it was announced that Rihanna even decided to donate $25,000 of her own money to the foundation when she learned what it does to help the underserved children.
The incident happened right in the middle of the game, as Soboroff recalls it. It was the second time he was sitting next to RiRi at a basketball game and while chatting he told her about a tragic death of one of the LAPD officers, who was the fifth officer they lost since March 7th.
“I told her that a photo with us wearing LAPD wristbands would bring a huge needed smile to the faces of our 10,000 men and women LAPD officers,” Soboroff said. RiRi agreed, and he gave her his phone as she told him she knew how one should do selfies.
“Trying to pose and show the wristbands was tough, and her hands were full anyway, so the phone fell on the floor,” he said. The phone apparently had a crack, “but this fall shattered the screen!”
