Kayode Babade, former Majority Leader of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, on May 13, 2014, Tuesday, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Babade, who served under ex-governor, Ayo Fayose, explained that his decision was propelled by the impressive performance of Governor Kayode Fayemi.
During the ceremony at the APC rally in Ikere Ekiti, he urged the people to ignore Fayose in the June 21 election, saying it was deceitful and hypocritical for PDP to make the former governor, who had once portrayed the party's image in an unthinkable manner their candidate.
The defector said that he expected the PDP to field a better candidate for the election, rather than someone who had lost relevance among the people of Ekiti State.
Meanwhile, at the event, the state's former Commissioner for Lands in the Segun Oni-led administration described Fayemi as the best among the candidates being paraded by the various parties for the gubernatorial election.
"Governor Kayode Fayemi’s reelection is ordained by God. His performance and approach to governance is systematic. He is committed to the development of the state and like minded people like us must join him" Babade said. "This is why other progressives in the PDP, led by Seguin Oni decided to join hands with him to move Ekiti forward. Fayemi is responsible, hardworking and humble, so Ekiti people must reelect him for a second term".
Governor Fayemi, in his address described Ikere Ekiti as a gateway town, and promised that his administration will continue to give the town the needed attention for the radical development it deserves.
