Boko Haram Flee Sambisa Forest to Gwoza LGA Villages, Locals Say
Members of the Boko Haram terrorist sect may have relocated to Gwoza local government area of Borno State from Sambisa forest area.
The terrorists have been spotted in Patawe, Fadagwe, Wala, Uvaha, Gatha, Jige, Warabe and Ngoshe villages, all which are in Gwoza council.
On May 9, the sect have destroyed a bridge linking Borno and Adamawa states, as well as attacked the Limankara community in Gwoza LGA, looting the residents and burning the houses.
Local residents say the Boko Haram terrorists still use motorcycles despite the ban that was imposed about two years ago in the entire state. Youths are being kidnapped and forced to join the sect. Also, Fulani herdsmen are constantly complaining about losing the cattle to the terrorists.
The security patrols, according to the locals, are afraid of extending their operations to the remote villages of the council. The residents have to abandon their houses and run to safety upon seeing the insurgents on their bikes.
Despite the emergency rule imposed on the state a year ago, Borno State has been a constant target for Boko Haram attacks. Over 200 female students were kidnapped by the sect on April 14 from Chibok town. Ngala LGA of the state has also been hit, as over 300 persons were killed on May 5; another 30 lost their lives on May 8, when a bridge linking Nigeria to Cameroon was bombed by the sect.
