Nigeria Needs To Learn How To Maintain Her infrastructure - NLC

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has asked the Nigerian Government to bring back to life the moribund Ajaokuta Steel Company Ltd., ASCL, in Kogi State.

The Congress President, Abdulwaheed Omar said this yesterday in Ajaokuta during a routine inspection visit to the steel company. He described the situation of the company as very bad and couldn't believe how the FG could allow their investment of $5 billion (N804 billion) to go to waste.

Mr. Omar said that if the nation wants to become one of the best 20 economies in the world by year 2020, it will need to learn how to take care and maintain her infrastructures.

He said the steel company could right now provide Nigeria over 50,000 direct and indirect jobs, if it was given proper attention.

He revealed that the NLC will try to make the President visit the company as soon as possible, He said: “Maybe that will eventually change (the President’s) mind.

I believe that all hope is not yet lost on the case of the company and I believe that Ajaokuta Steel Company will come back to life,”.
