School Bus Hijacked in Abuja Recovered in Nasarawa, Police Say
On Tuesday afternoon, the police have recovered the school bus that was stolen at the gate of an Abuja school and arrested two suspects in connection with the armed robbery.
The news was announced by Nosike Ogbuenyi, the Special Assistant to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, and confirmed in a statement by the CSP Frank Mba.
It would be recalled that alarmed parents rushed to various schools in Nyanya, Kurudu and other adjoining communities to pick up their children as they learnt some students were allegedly kidnapped in a school bus by unknown gunmen.
The police, however, were quick to assert that no person was kidnapped or injured, but the hoodlums, at about 7.45 a.m., had hijacked a Toyota Hiace school bus belonging to the Vine International Academy, Nyanya. The incident was reported by the driver who said he dropped the pupils off and was cleaning the bus when three armed men took the keys away.
The bus was recovered by police operatives attached to the Nasarawa Police Command along Lafia Road in Nasarawa State. Two of the three suspects were also arrested: Victor Essien, 40, and Ubong Bassey, 49.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP MD Abubakar, CFR, NPM, mni, psc, commended his men for a job well done and reassured Nigerians of the enhanced state of security in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environs.
The Nyanya susburb of Abuja has been the site of two separate bomb explosions that happened in the last three weeks and killed over 90 people.
