Kwankwaso Declares Jonathan Is Not Doing Enough To Fight Corruption

The cold war between the Governor of Kano State, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, and President Goodluck Jonathan continued over the weekend after the governor tagged himself a better fighter against corruption than the president.

Kwankwaso stated that his administration always deals squarely with corrupt officials, while Jonathan merely “shoots the messenger”. Moreover, he noted that Kano indigenes were satisfied with the way their money is being spent. According to him, all the money collected by the state government was judiciously spent and properly documented. All the governmental projects were genuine, extensive and verifiable.

The governor further declared that his government does not and would never tolerate or encourage corruption, would punish those involved in it, unlike the president, “who is known to punish only whistleblowers”.

Kwankwaso described the recent PDP unity rally, graced by President Goodluck Jonathan himself, as an event which has been attended by only a few outsiders and shunned by party stakeholders.

According to him, all these factors combined will “pave way for the APC to win the 2015 elections”.

The war of words between the governor and the president started right before of Jonathan's visit to Kano state on April 15, 2014.

First, Kwankwaso lamented that Jonathan's administration did nothing significant for development of the region, stated he regretted voting for him in 2011.

In his return, the president accused the governor of maladministration and improper use of state's funds.

Kwankwaso did not intend to give up, dared President Jonathan again, declared that he failed the people of Kano as well as other Nigerians”.
