Why Wike Can't Replace Me As Governor - Amaechi Reveals

Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State has said the supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, cannot be his successor as they are both from the same ethnic group in the state.

According to the governor, those from Ikwerre ethnic group planning to contest for the governorship post in the state are desperate politicians as it is morally wrong for anyone from that ethnic group to contest.

Speaking at the Government House, Port Harcourt yesterday during a solidarity visit from the chiefs and elders of Ogu/Bolo, Amaechi said the governorship position is only open to candidates from other ethnic groups.

Amaechi called on the Rivers people to vote for any other candidate who is not from Ikwerre, pointing out that if they allow an Ikwerre man to be succeed him, the hope of their children becoming governor will be gone. Advocating for justice and equity for “rotational governorship “among the ethnic groups, Amaechi called on the people to vote out the People democratic Party (PDP).

"I have told Ikwerre people that the young man (Wike) whose ambition is blinding him must be thrown out, all Ikwerre people must rise against him and vote for a candidate from another ethnic group.

“If PDP is bringing an Ikwerre man to run for governorship position when an Ikwerre man has run for eight years, it means that what PDP is trying to do is to enthrone Ikwerre dominance, because Ikwerre has about 1.1 million votes in the four local government areas, then Ikwerre would dominate the governorship of the state

," Amaechi said.

He added that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state would toe the line of justice and fair play not to field any governorship candidate from Ikwerre ethnic nationality in the forthcoming elections.
