Suspected Boko Haram fighters attacked 'en masse' a military checkpoint close to Sabongari Hyambula village of Madagali local government area of Adamawa state in the night of April 22, 2014, Tuesday.
According to Daily Trust, a soldier and two civilians were killed during a gun battle. Two terrorists were liquidated as well.
Another source in the capital city of the state, Yola, Mr Mohammed Auwal, confirmed the development.
However, Captain Jafaru Nuhu, the Public Relations Officer attached to 23 Brigade Yola, neither confirmed nor denied the incident, said he would find out later. The PRO noted that the military was doing its best to return normalcy in the area.
The residents were reported fleeing to nearby bushes and the hill tops for fear of being affected by the fight. Community leaders urged the locals to return to their homes.
It would be noted that Jonathan’s administration, governors and spiritual leaders of Nigeria have entered a crucial meeting which is aimed at discussing the new strategy in the fight against insurgency. One of the possible points subject to evaluation is cancellation of the state of Emergency Rule in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States.
