Masquerades Machete Ex-police Chief To Death In Akwa Ibom

A retired chief superintendent of police (CSP), Mr Attah Johnson Udom was gruesomely murdered yesterday by masquerades popularly refered to as 'ekpo' in Obioakpa Village, Oruk Anam local government area of Akwa Ibom State.

He was murdered on his way to church for early morning prayers.

A source who pleaded anonymity said the masked men inflicted several machete cuts on him before fleeing the scene.

According to report, Mr Udom had been working as an under cover agent for the police so as to reveal the people behind the notorious activities of masquerades who have long been banned in the community.

He therefore became a target of the masquerades who didn't want their notorious activities to be revealed.

Masquerade parades in the community have long been banned, as a result of the many unlawful deeds perpetrated by the masquerades.

Confirming the incident, the Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Etim Dickson, said that investigation was on to apprehend the culprits.
