14 Year-Old Bride Charged For Poisoning Her Husband, Three Others

14 year-old bride, Wasila Tasi’u who killed her husband and three others in Kademi village in Gaya Local Government Area of Kano state was on April 14th, Monday, charged before a Rijiyar Zaki Magistrates Court in Kano for alleged culpable homicide.

The defendant who confessed to poisoning her 35 year-old husband,Umar Sani's meal with rat poison, killing three of his friend's who had eaten the meal in the process said she committed the offence because she did not love her husband and was forced to marry him.

The prosecutor, Inspector Yusuf Sale, told the court that the accused, Binta Muhammad, killed her husband and three others with food mixed with some substance, popularly known as Ota pia pia.

According to him, the husband and the three others died on the spot while six others who ate the meal fell ill immediately rushed to General Hospital Gaya, after falling sick but were later treated and discharged.

Meanwhile Binta, who said she regretted her actions as she had no intention of killing her husband and the other victim but just wanted to teach him a lesson however pleaded not guilty and ordered to be remanded in prison by the Magistrate Binta.

The Magistrate, Binta Muhammad, adjourned the case to May 12 for mention.
