16 JAMB Candidates Die In Zamfara
No fewer than 16 people, who were mainly students died in a ghastly motor accident along Gusau/Kauran-Namoda Road in Zamfara State at the weekend.
The accident involved a Golf car and a toyota Hiace bus that was conveying some candidates to their centre at Gusau for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, which took place nationwide on Saturday.
It was gathered that 14 of the victims died on the spot while two of the seven other passengers who were seriously injured and rushed to hospital for treatment, later died in the hospital.
When contacted, the state Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), through its Public Relations Officer, Mr Garba Lawal, said that the vehicles had a head-on collision.
He explained that the accident allegedly occurred due to over speeding by both drivers, saying “they ignored the sign that speed kills.”
Lawal confirmed that 14 people died on the spot while two died after they were taken to hospital.
He advised motorists to always be conscious of road signs which guide drivers on when to overtake and avoid over speeding.
