Clark Denies Paying For Son’s Freedom From Kidnappers

Ex Information Minister and national leader of the Ijaw, Chief Edwin Clark recently denied that he paid for the release of his son from the Kidnappers den and also blasted the claims made by Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) as ridiculous.

He was talking at a recent press conference in Abuja about the matter and how his son Ebiteme Clark release came to be.

Ebiteme was released on saturday and MEND had insisted that Delta state government released about N500million for his freedom.

MEND also accused Ebiteme of planning his own kidnapping with his father's knowledge and support.

Ebiteme was kidnapped in Kiagbodo, Burutu local government in Delta state last week by unknown gunmen.

Clark said that he didn't pay a penny to the kidnappers for the freedom of his son, and rebuked the notion by MEND saying its false and malicious.

He also said that Jomo Gbomo's MEND is no different from Henry and Charles Okah's MEND. And also saying that he didn't profit from his son's kidnapping.

Clark who was with his son at the press conference said:“when they called me and told me to bring N50million naira, I said no I am an old man, I have no money But I will give you N5million.

Many delegates to the conference were seated with me in my house at the time. So They (kidnappers) said it was not enough for them. So I didn’t hear from them again but I knew I had to do something. If there is an altercation or confrontation between Tompolo’s men or the Delta state government somebody will die or be injured.

As I was told somebody was killed while trying to rescue him from kidnapp. So I was worried. I got a call from them on Saturday demanding the 4million naira, but I said this was Saturday, I don’t keep money in my house I am far away in Abuja, even if I raise the money in Abuja it will take another six hours to be transferred to Warri.
