Gunmen Kill 10, Burn Houses In Taraba State

Taraba state was thrown into mourning after gunmen on Tuesday, stormed Jibu village in Wukari Local Government Area of the state, killing 10 people and burning over 20 houses.

The Police spokesman, ASP Joseph Kwaji, who confirmed the attack while speaking with newsmen in Jalingo said:

“Yes, I can confirm to you that at about 5 a.m. today, a group of Jukun youths stormed Jibu village, opened fire at the inhabitants and killed 10 people,’’ he said.

According to him, the suspected gunmen killed every one they saw in the area irrespective of the person’s ethnicity and region, including Jukuns.

“I can also confirm to you that 15 people are badly injured and about 20 houses were set ablaze,” he said.

He however assured residents of the community that the attackers would be arrested and made to face the law while stating that a joint patrol of Mobile police and military had been deployed to intensify security in the area.

It would be recalled that a similar attack occurred on March 23, 2014, as suspected Fulani herdsmen also stormed Buwa village, Ibi local government area of Taraba State, killing anyone they sighted and burning houses.
