ASK NAIJ: Woman fears her abortion may have ruined her marriage

A Legit.ng reader is afraid that the decision she once took might have affected her marriage and her ability to have more children with her husband. She has no one to confide in, that's why she anonymously submitted her story to info@naij.com. She hopes you would advice and guide her.

My husband and I dated for four years before getting married, and I got pregnant right after the ceremony. We both come from working families with low income and we still were students at the time. We didn't have our own place to stay, I didn't have a steady job, and his salary wouldn't have been enough to support the three of us. So my husband and I took the decision to abort the baby, without telling anyone about the pregnancy and the subsequent abortion.

Another two years have passed, we graduated, the financial situation is more or less stable now. But I'm reluctant to see a doctor and talk about getting pregnant because I'm afraid i'm not going to be able to have any more children. I feel guilty for killing our first baby.

My husband and I always argue about that decision, but we never sit down and talk about how it changed our lives. I cry each time I think about it. I can't even talk to anyone! I love my husband very much, and he's great with kids, but I just want us to talk about what happened. What can I do to help him talk to me? I feel lost!
