National Conference: Female Delegate Suggests Law To Castrate Rapists

One of the female delegates of the National Conference currently being held in Abuja suggested the new law providing for castration of rape convicts.

Lamenting that hundreds of Nigerian women are raped in the country every day, Ondo State representative Yemi Fasominu urged authorities to take serious steps in order to prevent the situation from worsening.

According to her, women need special protection from the government, which is "a law that will castrate men who are convicted of rape".

The suggestion was followed by immediate reaction of other conference attendees: some of them laughed, some murmured and made side comments on the matter.

After speaking on some other relevant issues, Yemi Fasominu concluded her speech calling for equity, justice and fair play for all Nigerians irrespective of their backgrounds and religious leanings.
