She Worries About Financial Stability While He Insists On Having A Baby

Legit.ng reader sent her story to info@naij.com, asking for a friendly advice. She's all eager to have a baby with her boyfirend, but insists on gaining financial stability and independence first. He, however, seems to think this is a minor issue.

I love my boyfriend of four years. We met while studying at a university, but started as friends. Together, we went through a lot: his divorce, my abusive relationship. Eventually, our feelings blossomed and we understood we're destined to end up together.

For the past year, he's been insisting on us having a baby. He has a 7-year-old boy from his ex-wife who lives with his mother, but I do not have any children yet. I get his point because I love him and would like to have children with him, too.

BUT.

I've got a full-time job, he's currently unemployed (has been for about six months). My salary would not be enough to support both of us and a child. With current epidemic of unemployment, who can guarantee he would find a job in the nearest time?

Our financial situation is the number one reason why I am not ready for a child. He thinks that it is an insignificant issue. Besides, we are not married. While the issue of wedding does not bother me (yet), I wouldn't like to have a child out of wedlock.

Our families do support us financially. But I am adamant about gaining financial independence and stability before starting a family of our own.

I am tired of defending myself and I do not know how else to explain it to him. What should I do?
