8-Yr-Old Girl's Death in Bayelsa Sparks Outrage, As Medics Justified
The Management of the Bayelsa-owned Diette-Koki Hospital in Yenagoa, have justified the medical workers in the hospital of complicity in the death of an 8-year-old girl, Inato Sunday.
The father of the deceased, Mr. Sunday Nyingasa, had accused the hospital management of negligence following the death of his child, Miss Inato Sunday, a primary two pupil.
Nyingasa claimed that the girl passed away as the technical staff of the hospital in charge of the power generating set were not able to perform their duties.
However, the Director of Medical and Dental Services of the Hospital, Dr. Solomon Sagbe, didn't admit guilt of the hospital.
While reacting to the alleged claims he insisted that the parents's attempt to seize the girl's pain giving her a traditional of local gin and bitter leaf mixture led to the death.
“It is not true that the actions of the doctors on duty led to the death of the girl.
It was the father who gave the girl a strange concoction that resulted in serious stomach pain.
The girl became unconscious. After they became aware of the state of the girl, they forced her to take mixture of pap and palm oil.”
According to a medical report, the deceased had 2 episodes of generalized tonic-clonic seizures, each lasting about five minutes incontinence, but there was no prior history of fever or neck stiffness.
Seizures have occurred spontaneously in the morning of the same day and shortly after she was given a bitter leaf juice and local gin mixture for stomach pains.
