Mama Taraba Counsel Reacts To Tribunal Verdict
Mahmoud Magaji (SAN), the counsel to the petitioner, Aisha Alhassan, at the just-concluded Taraba state governorship election tribunal in Abuja, has reacted to the verdict of the tribunal that annulled the election of the Taraba state governor, Darius Ishaku, on November 7.
Magaji described the ruling of the Justice Musa Abubakar-led tribunal as a victory for democracy and that the aspirations of the Taraba state voters has finally manifested.
“I want to see it as a victory to democracy and the rule of law that at least the intentions and aspirations of the voters is clearly manifested. And that they will have the representation that they voted for. I am particularly happy for the judiciary.
“I am happy for myself and happy for the APC candidate in that election and I wish her the best of luck in trying to deliver the dividends of democracy,” the happy counsel told Legit.ng's correspondent.
Fielding questions on the expected move of the defendant to go to the Court of Appeal, Magaji choose his words carefully. He said that it was the right of the defendant to remain in power pending when the verdict of the Appellate court.

“It is the right of the other party and by virtue of section 143 he is bound to stay in power until after the appeal is finally disposed of,” he said.
Efforts to reach APC’s national woman leader Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu and the spokesperson of the ruling party Alhaji Lai Mohammed proved abortive, as they refused to pick up their calls.
However, unconfirmed reports have it that the party’s hierarchy are celebrating the court’s verdict. The APC supporters are out to the streets to celebrate too. Learn more from the photos below:
