Gulak Says 5 Lawmakers Dumped APC Because It Has Nothing To Offer
Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs Alhaji Ahmed Ali Gulak has dismissed as wild and frivolous, allegations by the All Progressive Congress (APC), that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) offered money to five federal lawmakers to make them dump the opposition Party.
In a chat with Saturday Vanguard, Gulak said,
“There is no grain of truth in the allegations that PDP offered money to five lawmakers who discovered early enough that they were entering into a ship that is headed for the rocks and decided to pull back from shipwreck.
“The five lawmakers chose to stay with a party that offers them stability and continuity, it is therefore insulting to the integrity of the five lawmakers and their families for anybody to allege that they were induced with dollars to abandon the opposition party.”
He continued: “We have seen that when people cross over to APC, they are not accused of doing so for financial gains but when those who see that APC has nothing to offer Nigerians and return to PDP, they are accused of being bribed. We must feel concerned that APC now sees itself as the political party that would control the minds and reasoning of its members. This is a dangerous slide into fascism; their members are not allowed to reason independently or take rational decision as human beings.
“We are worried that APC has developed a penchant for throwing wild allegations without substantiating such allegations but most importantly, it has developed a psychology of making false and frivolous claims on issues of governance. APC has continued to accuse individuals and groups of corruption without providing proofs to back its claims. We expected the APC to provide credible opposition to the ruling party, but the APC has turned itself into a pressure group whose mission is to frustrate the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, inflict hardship on Nigerians and create violence if it fails to accomplish its goals. This is a brand of politics that Nigerians must reject.”
