Just yesterday (Thursday, October 1), Nigeria turned 55 and the historic event of independence has caused us to take a second look at Lagos which was the country's former colonial capital.

Having looked again at the history of Lagos and understudying the city's transformation from precolonial era till the modern day, we at Legit.ng have found reasons to reaffirm that Lagos is indeed one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

We have taken time to gather some of the best pictures of Lagos from times even before the nations independence up to this time when she is the toast of every lip in Africa.

From this panorama you too are most likely to agree that Lagos is a true beauty, indeed a worthy city for everyone to visit even once in a life time. Go on take the trip round Lagos in pictures, compare and contrast and let us have a feedback of what you feel about the "Centre of Excellence" then and now.
