NASARAWA CLASHES: Police Deny That 50 NYSC Members Died

Nasarawa police have denied the claims that 50 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members died as a result of the ongoing ethnic clashes in the state.

This information was disclosed by the Commissioner of police, Nasarawa state command, Umar Shehu at a briefing with journalist.

Shehu assured that youth corps members serving in these areas are under security protection.

He also said that security personnel have contained the crisis in Aduba and Obi local government. Eight additional units of mobile police officers from Benue and Plateau states are expected in the state before nightfall, he added.

The ethnic violence between the outlawed Ombatse militia of Eggon and the Alago people of Obi local government spreads from Aduba through Obi to Assakio. The crisis followed the killing of an Eggon man by the Alago group, which led to reprisal attacks yesterday.

During the clashes, hundreds of houses have been set ablaze. The police, however, said it did not claim any lives.
