A source in the APC party, who declined to be identified, told the press that the supposed motion for the adjournment “is to enable President Muhammadu Buhari to rein in rebellious lawmakers within the ranks of our party.”
Muhammadu Buhari is expected back in Abuja from G7 meeting in Germany on Thursday night.
Selection of candidates for top positions at the Senate and House of Representatives has led to a crisis within the ruling party as some APC lawmakers under Bukola Saraki’s leadership have reportedly united with PDP lawmakers overnight to present a PDP member for the post of the President of the Senate.

It is rumoured that the former Senate President David Mark is seeking for a third term in the premier post at the Senate and he has managed to gain support of those APC senators who are not satisfied with the latest APC decisions on candidates for top positions at the National Assembly.
An anonymous source informed the press that some PDP senators were also extorting huge bribes from the APC leadership in exchange for their votes for candidates favoured by the ruling party.

Five days ago Muhammadu Buhari listed 5 criteria needed for the new Senate President. According to them, the ideal person to fill this position is Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan from Nigeria’s northeast state of Yobe, adopted by the APC as the major candidate for the Senate Presidency.
In Buhari’s opinion, a person to fill vacancy of the Senate president shouldn’t be embroiled in any of major corruption scandals.
It has reportedly angered Bukola Saraki, aspiring to embrace the post reserved by the APC decision for Ahmed Lawan.
Nevertheless, Muhammadu Buhari had expressed his concerns whether Bukola Saraki is the right person to provide the needed legislative support as the Senate president in war against corruption declared by Buhari.

Some lawmakers in the House of Representatives, led by Yakubu Dogara, have also shown their dissatisfaction with Femi Gbajabiamila’s candidature as the APC’s favourite person for Speakership. Yakubu Dogara is the main Gbajabiamila’s opponent, aspiring for the same position.
Earlier Bukola Saraki has cautioned the leadership of the All Progressives Congress against flouting due process in selecting a candidate for the Senate presidency.
