Jos Flood: NEMA Spends N35m On Relief Materials

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says it has spent N35 million so far on the provision of relief materials to victims of the flood that ravaged Rikkos, a community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State about a week ago.

Director General of the agency, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Sidi, said the relief items have been delivered to the displaced victims now in two camps located at the Muslim Community Education Centre in Rikkos and Government Secondary School in Gangare.

Sidi said this through NEMA’s Assistant Director of Planning, Research and Forecasting, Mr. Ben Oghena, during an interactive session with United Nations officials.

Commenting after assessing the situation of the victims, Mr. Ayo Ajayi of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance, said he was happy with NEMA’s approach to disaster and its wisdom in inviting the United Nations to complement the Federal Government’s effort in managing disasters in Nigeria.

“The United Nations is impressed by your swift response and approach to disaster management in Nigeria,” he said.
