Lagos Youth Declares Support For Jonathan's Second Term

Barely weeks before the 2015 presidential elections hold across Nigeria, the youths in Lagos State, the commercial nerve centre of the country, have declared their support for the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan, who is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The Lagos youths made the declaration today, February 16, 2015, during a Special Youth Interactive session of the Directorate of Youth Mobilisation of PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation which took place at the Etal Hotels & Halls in Ikeja, Lagos State.

The event was among series of events lined up by the Directorate to mobilise young voters in support of President Jonathan's second term bid in office.

Among the dignitaries that attended the occasion that drew hundreds of Lagos youths and young professional from diverse sectors were the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in Lagos state, Mr Jimi Agbaje, Former Minister, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, the Director of the Directorate of Youth Mobilisation, Rt Hon Abdullahi Maibasira, the Senior Special Assistant to President Jonathan On Students and Youth Matters, Jude Imagwe and the Youth Leader in Lagos State, Jide Ladeinde.

Speaking during the event, Agbaje urged all Lagosians to rally round President Jonathan for him to realise his second term bid, stating that the reason opposition parties can abuse the incumbent President is because he has allowed freedom of information and expression as compared to Lagos state which has refused to domesticate the law.

Commenting on corruption, the PDP governorship candidate in Lagos state cited recent report by Transparency International which rated President Jonathan as the best among all previous presidents and Heads of State in Nigeria in terms of fighting corruption.

Agbaje praised President Jonathan for bringing down food imports with his agricultural transformation, wondering the governors of Lagos and Rivers stated who took President Jonathan to court for setting up the sovereign wealth fund could turn around and accuse the president of not saving for the rainy day.

Also, the chief host of the event, Rt Hon Maibasira wondered why a party with a 72-year-old presidential aspirant, a party chairman that is almost 80 and a youth leader approaching his 50s will be talking about change when they are the ones who are in dire need of change.

The PDP National youth leader enumerated some key achievements of President Jonathan such as in Education, Transport, Agriculture, Road and infrastructure all of whom he said have direct impact on the lives of young people in Nigeria.

He charged those present at the occasion to mobilise their friends and neighbours to vote for [resident Jonathan so that he can continue the good works has been doing.

Senator Obanikoro, while addressing those at the event, described the presidential candidate of opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, General MuhammBuhari, as a religious Bigot who represents everything that should not be encouraged in Nigeria.

The former minister recalled how his driver was beheaded by Buhari's supporters during the 2011 post election violence in Kaduna, wondering why Buhari who jailed Fela for keeping his own hard earned $4000 could turn a blind eye as his ADC ferried several brief cases stacked with cash into the country.

Senator Obanikoro urge those present to support Jimi Agbaje so as to halt the looting currently going on Lagos state by Alpha Beta who has siphoned over N206billion belonging to Lagos state.

On his part, Imagwe stated that the PDP is the only party that has remained consistent with its policies and ideals.

According to the senior special assistant to President Jonathan on students and youth matters, nobody believed the Lagos - Ibadan express way and the Benin-Ore road could receive the kind of attention they are presently receiving from president Jonathan.

He added that, "a situation where farmers can donate N5billion to a party's campaign points to the fact that transformation has taken place in the agricultural sector."

Meanwhile, others that graced the occasion were the national youth leaders of Accord Partym  APGA, ACD, PPA, Helen Paul of Tatafo, Rachel Oniga, Emeka Ike, Paul Obazele and other Nollywood actors.
