Suspected Suicide Bomber Set Ablaze In Gombe

A man suspected of carrying explosives around his leg was set ablaze by hoodlums in front of Kampala Hotel, in Herwagana area of Gombe metropolis on Wednesday night.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Gombe State Police Command, Fwaje Atajiri (DSP), confirmed the incident in a release to newsmen, in which he condenmened those who set the man ablaze and urged the youth to stay away  jungle justice.

An eye witness told a correspondent of Daily Times that the suspect refused to be searched by security men in front of the hotel and ran away around 7:30 pm on Wednesday, but was unlucky as hoodlums got hold on him and set him ablaze after seeing what they suspected to be explosives tied all around his legs.

The police in a statement said that suspects of any crime or offence should be reported to the nearest police station for swift response rather than let themsuffere the same fate as the man set ablaze.

The statement said, “The Gombe State Police Command wishes to make it categorically clear that it is poised to deal decisively with any form of hooliganism and violent crimes according to the rule of law.”

“The Command therefore said it will do all it can to fish out those involved in the dastardly act and make them face the wrath of the law and promised a handsome reward to anyone who volunteer information that will lead to the arrest of the criminals.”

Recently Gombe has been faced by a series of bomb attacks which has made the people to take extra measures in securing themselves. This has led to the instant killing of persons that have been suspected to be carrying improvised explosive devices (IED).
