Osinbajo Blasts Jonathan For Going To Islamic Meeting

All Progressives Congress (APC) vice presidential candidate, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has blasted President Goodluck Jonathan for going to the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) meeting.

President Jonathan had attended the OIC meeting, making him the first president to do so since Nigeria was surreptitiously enlisted by President Ibrahim Babangida in 1986.

Osinbajo revealed this today during a meet and greet session in Warri, Delta state.

He claimed that those who have said that Buhari is a Muslim fundamentalist and campaigner for the Islamisation of Nigeria were doing nothing but distorting history.

“Throughout his period as military head of state, Buhari was under intense pressure to drag Nigeria into the OIC, but he never yielded, because he respects Nigeria as a secular state, in line with the constitution. Besides, his cook and driver are Christians.

“When Babangida eventually dragged Nigeria into OIC, none of his successors ever attended any of its meeting because they know to Islamise Nigeria is very difficult, as you need to first get the constitution amended. That process, you know, is almost impossible.

“But it is on record that in 2013, President Jonathan, undermining the constitutional limitation, ensured that Nigeria attended an OIC meeting,” he declared.

Osinbajo is campaigning with Gen Muhammadu Buhari to win the national elections on the APC ticket. If they succeed, it will be the first time any opposition party has defeated the PDP in Nigeria since the return to democracy in 1999.
