Ohaneze Warns Rev. Mbaka

The Youth Council of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo has taken a swipe at the controversial Enugu Catholic priest, Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka, over his advice to Nigerians.

ThisDay reports that the National President of the Ohaneze Youth Council, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, on Wednesday, warned the clergyman against his recent advice that Nigerians should reject President Jonathan in the coming election because of alleged non-performance.

Isiguzoro, which described Mbaka’s remarks as ‘spiritual poison,’ said it is unbecoming of a religious leader, and urged Nigerians, especially Ndigbo, to ignore the vituperations of the Catholic priest as he was not speaking for either the Catholic Church or Ndigbo.

According to him, Rev. Father Mbaka’s comments against the president were not only vexatious but inciting and advised him to steer clear of politics and face his spiritual calling.

"Mbaka as a man of God should have stayed out of politics and concentrated on winning souls for God. He does not understand the issues he dabbled into and he appears to be under the prodding of fifth columnists. His followers expected him to give them spiritual food but he is now giving them a spiritual poison,” the group said.

In a related development, it was gathered that ahead of the flag-off of the Presidential Campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu state on Friday, January 9, 2015, the state governor, Sullivan Chime has declared his readiness to mobilise the people of the state to deliver 100 per cent of their votes to the incumbent president in next month’s polls.

Rev Father Mbaka's recent criticism of Jonathan sparked up reaction from the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), as it expressed concern over the strong criticism of Mr President by Mbaka, and accused him of double-speaking.

It would be recalled that Rev Father Mbaka blasted President Jonathan over his helplessness in the war against corruption and inability to stop killings of innocent people in Nigeria.
