Boko Haram Kill Many Soldiers In Fresh Borno Attack

Scores of soldiers were allegedly killed January 3 in a Boko Haram attack on the Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF) base, Baga, Kukawa LGA, Borno State.

Leadership reports with reference to the top security source in Borno that the situation was being handled under the conditions of secrecy by the military authorities in the countries that constitute the Multinational Joint Task Force.

The source, who pleaded for anonymity, disclosed that the attack was launched  about 5am yesterday adding that the staff had been "practically dislodged" by the insurgents.

"We had a very ugly development in Baga today (Saturday) morning, when the Boko Haram insurgents went and dislodged the Multinational Joint Task Force there. All we know for now that it was a bad outing for the soldiers, because the base was practically dislodged, but one cannot say specifically the extent of damage caused on the base and the personnel for now."

It would be recalled that the formed MTJF was aimed at frustrating the militants' activities in the troubled area. It is feared however that the recent attack might help them have a field day in that part of the country.

Meanwhile the source also confirmed the kidnap of 40 youths in Malari village of the state revealing that the victims had been taken to Modube.

"Our office had received the Intel that on January 1, 2015, at about 5pm, some Boko Haram gunmen had invaded one Malari village in Damboa local government area of Borno State, where they killed some of the villagers and abducted some youths, who might have been taken to one of Boko Haram’s hideouts known as Modube Camp."

The senior security source added that it was one of the militants' new hideouts.

The incident comes after another alleged mass abduction in Gumsuri, where 185 women and children were kidnapped by gunmen and taken to the unknown location last month.

One of the victims who managed to escape narrated how they had been forced to work hard and eat nothing but beans.
