Tambuwal Disrupts APC’s Consensus Candidate
Following the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal’s indication of interest to run for Presidency in the 2015 general elections has reportedly disrupted the All Progressive Congress alleged consensus candidate.
Punch reported that attempts by the APC to pick a presidential candidate by consensus on Wednesday ended on a deadlock as stakeholders could not arrive at a compromise.
Meanwhile, some APC members in the House of Representatives have reportedly launched a powerful drive for the Speaker to emerge as the presidential candidate of the party. The members on Thursday reportedly purchased the party’s presidential nomination form for Tambuwal to contest in the 2015 general polls.
Before the emergence of Tambuwal, who recently defected from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the main opposition party, APC, the contest was initially between the former Head of State, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari ; former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar; Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, as well as Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha.
