New Ebola Virus Case Confirmed In Nigeria
Nigeria has a third confirmed case of Ebola for the last couple of weeks. On September 1, 2014, the health minister stated that now there 3 confirmed Ebola cases, bringing the total number of country's infections during the whole period of epidemic to 16. Approximately 200 people remain under surveillance, mainly in Lagos and Port Harcourt.
On the last week of summer Port Harcourt`s doctor died after contacting of the diplomat who got infected from the first recorded case of the virus, US-Liberian Patrick Sawyer. One of Sawyer's contacts in Lagos managed to get to the Port Harcourt and sought treatment there.
The person recovered from the virus of Ebola, but infected the doctor. The third confirmed case is a female patient from the same hospital, where the deceased doctor used to work.
A new case in Port Harcourt proves that all the efforts of protection do not have 100% effect. Although the isolation ward was created in Yaba, Lagos, and all the contacts of Ebola suspectes were strictly monitored.
The Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, stated during his press-conference that all 72 people in Lagos are still under suspicion of having an Ebola virus. As for the Port Harcourt he admitted:
"Two other contacts of the late Port Harcourt doctor, one of the doctors who managed him and a pharmacy technician working in the doctor's hospital, are symptomatic and have been admitted to the isolation ward in Rivers."
This outbreak of Ebola is the worst ever. For now it killed at least 1,550 people, and continues to infect. The World Health Organization predicts that soon there could be more than 20,000 people infected.
