Kano Bombings: Jonathan Warns Terrorists
President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has warned that his government will no longer tolerate wanton killing of innocent Nigerians by terrorists.
He said this in the Kano on Thursday through the Minister of interior, Abba Moro who led a Federal Government delegation to assess last Monday’s grievous attack at the New Road Luxury Park, Sabon Gari, Kano, northern Nigeria which claimed scores of lives.
The Minister of Interior was accompanied by Minister of Police Affairs, Mr Caleb Olabode , Chief of Army staff, General Azubuike Ihejiraka and the Inspector General of Police, Mr.Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar.
Abba after assessing the situation told Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso that Jonathan was pained over what happened in Kano last Monday.
“I am to convey to you the heartfelt condolences of Mr. President and the people of Nigeria over this unfortunate incident and to say that Mr President is saddened by the fact that in spite of spirited and determined efforts by government to contend the security challenges, this conflict continues to rear its ugly head occasionally,” Abba said.
The Minister noted thatPresident Jonathan was not favourably disposed to the spate of wanton killings in the North caused by Islamic militants, adding that aggressive steps are being taken to ensure an end to the massacre.
“Mr. President has asked therefore that everybody should be involved in necessary sensitization to enable us as a government contend with the situation we have on hand on the security situation and that  I should give you the assurances of the Federal Government of its support to assist the State Government to unravel the mystery surrounding these occasional attacks on the lives of our people,” Abba stated.
Kwankwaso thanked President Jonathan for sending the delegation to assess the situation, stating that his government remained committed to ensure protection of lives and property of citizens resident in Kano.
The Governor, however, noted that indigenes of Kano were also affected in the attack, while pointing out that both Christians and Muslims have gone into prayer for the return of peace and unity in the state.
“We will continue to partner with the Federal Government and local governments to find lasting solution to the conflict.We are already collecting names of those who died in the attack and from what we see, they may comprise of mostly natives and people from this part of the country.”
