A night of tributes in honor of late Prof. Dora Akunyili was held yesterday, 25 of August, 2014 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

The former Director General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) of Nigeria and Nigerian Minister of Information and Communications from 2008 to 2010, died June 7 after a brief battle with cancer . Professor Dora Akunyili will be buried this Thursday, August 28.

However the night of tributes to the late amazon was flooded with many dignitaries. Some of them were the Honourable MInister of Information - Mr. Labaran Maku; Former CBN governor - Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo; Minister of Finance - Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; Hon. Minister of Health - Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu; Director General, Voice of Nigeria - Mall Abubakar Jijiwa.

National President, Nigeria Union of Journalists - Mr Mohammed Garba; President National Council for Women Societies - Mrs Nkechi O. Mba; Hon. Minister of Solid Minerals - Arch. Musa Sada; Hon Minister of Labour and productivity - Chief Emeka Wogu, Madam Onyeka Onwenu, Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano, Former Minister of Health, Prof A.B.C, Retired General Yakubu Gowon , Dr. Chris Ngige, Chief Victor Umeh and many more.

It would be recalled Professor Akunyili passed away at the age of 59 at an Indian Hospital on Saturday, June 7, 2014, where she has been receiving treatment, after a two-year battle with cancer. The woman of substance, who would have turned 60 on July 14, is survived by her husband, Dr Chike Akunyili, six children, three grandchildren, siblings and several relatives.

May her soul rest in peace.
