Ebola: Dr Adadevoh Dies

Dr. Ameyo Stella Adedavoh, the first doctor to attend to Liberian-American Patrick Sawyer, has died.

This was disclosed in a press statement by the Special Assistant on Media to the Health Minister, Mr. Dan Nwomeh, Punch reports.

The statement said: "The Honourable Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu regrets to announce the death, this evening, of one of the primary contacts of the index Ebola Virus Disease case, the most senior doctor  who participated in the management of the patient, a female consultant physician.

"The other two patients currently under treatment in the isolation wards are stable and are being taken care of."

Dr. Adadevoh, an experienced consultant physician and endocrinologist was Lead Consultant with First Consultants Medical Centre, Obalende, Lagos.

Adadevoh becomes the fourth Nigerian to die from the virus, excluding the index case, Patrick Sawyer. The other three who passed away are two nurses and the ECOWAS staff.

It would be noted that Dr. Adadevoh was the first Nigerian to be diagnosed with EVD. The doctor, as well as other people whose cases have been confirmed gained lots of support and triggered a campaign on social media –  #GiveThemExperimentalDrugs

Nigeria has also recorded  five Ebola survivors while three more are said to be recovering.
