Soldiers Fear Boko Haram's Armory, Demand Better Weapons
About 30 Nigerian soldiers refused to proceed to Bama to engage Boko Haram insurgents this morning, August 19, in Maiduguri, Borno State.
According to SaharaReporters, a military officer serving in the Mailari barracks who confirmed the incident said the soldiers were not provided with superior weapons to engage the militants.
As the officer said the soldiers refused orders on the grounds as Boko Haram fighters have highly sophisticated weapons and they don't.
The officer also complained that they have seen how their colleagues have been ambushed and serially killed, due to lack of superior firepower, and so they cannot take such risk until they are better armed.
At the time of this report it was unconfirmed if the men reconsidered their refusal action.
On Monday, August 18, no fewer than three people were reportedly killed and 15 others kidnapped in a fresh cross-border attack by the dreaded Boko Haram sect in northern Cameroon.
