Man Arrested For Burying His New-Born Baby Alive
Kids with disabilities are often seen as an embarrassment to the family. One Pakistani man took extreme measures to get rid of his disabled baby.
Mohammed Anwar, was arrested and accused of burying his newborn daughter alive because she was physically deformed.
Anwar is a police officer in the city of Khanewal in the eastern Punjab province, his daughter was born at a hospital in the nearby town of Kacha Khoh.
“After seeing his newborn daughter, Anwar told his relatives that the baby was born dead. He organized a funeral for her. During the funeral service the baby started crying. The presiding cleric told the father to rush the baby girl to the hospital but instead of going to the hospital he buried the baby,” Shamshad Khalid, the town’s police chief said.
Residents alerted the police after seeing the father take the baby to the graveyard. Police raided the man’s house and arrested him on a murder charge.
“She was healthy and alive but she had a fairly large head and abnormal features,” said Mohammed Farooq, the doctor who took care of the baby after she was born.
Police will exhume the child’s body and perform an autopsy. The father could be sentenced to death if he’s found guilty of killing his daughter.
