Jada Pinkett Smith Speaks Out On Human Trafficking
Jada Pinkett-Smith joins fight against human trafficking. Mother, actress and musician, Jada Pinkett-Smith is using her voice to bring attention to a dark, but very real underworld all over the globe: human trafficking.
Pinkett-Smith has recorded a song called “Nada Se Compara” with her band Wicked Evolution and starred in a video directed by Salma Hayek that addresses the issue. Jada and her husband, Will Smith were also present when the State Department released it’s annual report on human-trafficking on Tuesday.
Pinkett-Smith, who says that the epidemic was brought to her attention by her daughter, Willow, has joined with the Oakland, Calif. based H.E.A.T Watch. The organization’s mission is to build and increase the capacity of all child-serving professionals (CSP) and communities to effectively respond to and combat commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) in their jurisdictions.
According to reports, it is estimated as many as 27 million people around the world are victims of modern slavery, or human trafficking. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke about steps the governments throughout the world are taking to combat these crimes.
“Now the United States is not alone in this fight,” she said. “Many governments have rallied around what we call the three P’s of fighting modern slavery: prevention, prosecution, and protection.”
