How Dangote's Truck Drivers Killed Over 200 Nigerians

Accident just like its meaning is a mishap or an unforeseen and unplanned event or unfortunate circumstance, often with lack of intention or necessity but when it becomes rampant especially in a suspicious manner and to the extent that, lives are being lost in a reckless way depicting a voodoo approach, in a society where wealth and richness could be traced to spiritualism, then there's an urgent need for authorities to nip it in the bud.

One of these is the consistent accidents from many of the drivers of the man reputed to be the richest in Africa, Alhaji Aliko Dangote. Aside being a multi billionaire business mogul of note whose track records transverse the Almighty FORBES, the man is also inching for the Guinness Books of Records by employing Phd holders as drivers.

We take a look at some of these killings and found out that accidents recorded by Dangote trucks and it's drivers have wasted more than 200 persons in just a year.

Even though, authorities in Lagos insisted that, lack of proper training of personnel and maintenance of these vehicles are the main cause of these accidents, some school of thought are of the opinion that there`s more to this than meets the eyes.

Enquirer outlines some of these accidents that have claimed lives by Dangote group.

Feb 2012

Less than 30 persons have been confirmed dead, with five said to be severe, in an accident in which a truck owned by Dangote Cement Company had a head-on collision with another truck. The accident occurred at Sango Otta in Ogun State.

Many of those crushed by the Dangote truck are reported to be on danger list in various hospitals in Lagos and Ogun States.

The Dangote truck, apart from the other truck, also crushed six vehicles, a tricycle and a motorcycle, “There was a head-on collision between the truck and a tipper lorry, which later involved other vehicles.”

Nineteen other persons were also injured in an auto accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The accident, which occurred at about 12pm on Sunday, involved a black Toyota Hilux with number-plate AH 350GKW and white Mazda bus, with number-plate XZ377GGE.

It was said to be a head-on collision.

Last April, a coroner’s inquest indicted the company after a truck belonging to Dangote Sugar Refinery lost control and ran into vehicles at a police check-point, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, in 2010

July 2012

A truck belonging to Dangote Industries Limited allegedly crushed two men to death in a Toyota Camry car, on Wednesday. This is coming less than four months after a coroner’s verdict in Lagos indicted a truck driver with the same company for causing the death of over twenty motorists in 2010, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

It will be recalled that on April 21, 2012, 38 students of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State, also had an accident involving a truck allegedly belonging to Dangote Industries Limited. Four of the students involved in the accident reportedly died as a result of injuries sustained.

August 2012

The accident, which occurred after a truck belonging to Dangote Sugar Refinery Limited rammed into vehicles at the Ojodu bridge of the expressway, resulted in an inferno that led to the loss of over 40 lives.

An articulated truck belonging to Dangote Group, Wednesday, rammed into five vehicles at Isara, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, resulting in fatalities.

Four men were killed while 31 people, including three children, sustained serious injuries as the truck, with registration number XD 220 ZKS, crushed all five vehicles on impact.

Sept 2012

It’s yet another needless wastage of precious human lives as a truck belonging to Dangote Group just crushed a Sienna bus, trapping all the occupants. The accident happened in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, in north-central Nigeria, over 40 people died.

Another fatal accident involving one of the Phd holder drivers of Dangote group occurred at Iyana Ilogbo, along Lagos Abeokuta express way leaving 2 people dead and many injured. We want authorities to help look into these reckless and untimely killings of innocent citizens.The gory picture is the latest accident recorded this morning.
